Modern Forms smart fans are rated for installation on 4" octagonal junction boxes. The junction box should be fan-rated and offer support for up to 70 pounds, or the weight of your fan at minimum. We also recommend the use of the fan's included safety cable to support the fan in the event of insufficient support. The compatibility of pancake style boxes as well as other junction box types may vary.
NOTE: In Canada, the use of a safety cable is required.
Your new Modern Forms smart fan requires a standard 2 wire (hot and neutral as well as ground wire) supplying 110-120v AC power in order to function properly. The fan has been tested on 15-amp residential circuits on 14 AWG, but can accommodate most variations between residential circuits and wire gauges.
If your fan is replacing an AC voltage fan or fixture, you may have a 3 wire with an additional hot wire, which can be disconnected and capped with a wire nut. The fan's receiver module only needs a single hot input and will supply power to both the LED and motor of the fan, as well as converting AC voltage into DC voltage.
If your fan included a Bluetooth wall switch or if you are purchasing the optional Bluetooth wall switch accessory to use with your fan, the switch also requires a 2 wire with the same voltage requirements. The Bluetooth wall switch communicates with your fan wirelessly after programming, and does not require a direct switch leg wire to the fan. If a switch leg is available for the fan, the wall switch offers an optional output wire that can be connected to the leg to supply power to the fan.
